Iraq, July 24, 2024
Ten years ago, the Yazidi community faced unimaginable crimes. The genocide committed by the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) left deep scars, but Yazidis have shown incredible strength and resilience in their journey to heal, rebuild and demand justice and accountability.
Yazda, together with Sinjar Academy and Free Yezidi Foundation is publishing a Policy Paper which dives deep into the ongoing challenges faced by the Yazidi community, including protracted displacements, the lack of safety and guarantees of non-repetition, the reconstruction of Sinjar. It also underlines the remarkable efforts of the Yazidi community to recover and rebuild, 10 years after the beginning of the genocide.
This report is not just a recounting of the past but a call to action. It highlights the need for continued support, comprehensive transitional justice process and safety for the Yazidi community.
Together, we can help ensure a brighter future for the Yazidi community and all communities affected by ISIL genocide.

About Yazda:
Yazda is a global community-led organization providing critical humanitarian assistance and promoting accountability and justice for the atrocities committed by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as ISIS, IS or by its Arabic acronym Da’esh, against the Yazidi community and other groups in Iraq.
Yazda was established in 2014, three weeks after the genocidal campaign commenced in Sinjar, northern Iraq, and was among the first organizations on the ground providing lifesaving assistance to survivors. Yazda was the first actor to document Yazidi survivor accounts of crimes committed by ISIL.
