Iraq, 08 August 2024
Yazda is gravely concerned about the ongoing violent and disturbing campaign of hate speech and online violence committed against the Yazidi community, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Yazidi genocide. Yazda has been monitoring the situation, documenting online violence, and is coordinating relevant national and international stakeholders, including the United Nations to ensure the situation is taken seriously and the safety of all communities is prioritized.
Yazda unequivocally condemns hate speech against any ethnic of religious group, including Muslims and Yazidis and stands firmly against extremism in all its forms. We are deeply concerned about the potential escalation of this situation.
Many members of the Yazidi community have reached out to Yazda out of fear of imminent attacks. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and push national and international actors to prioritize the safety of all communities in Iraq and in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government must tackle the root causes of the Yazidi genocide and ensure clear guarantees of non-repetition for the crimes committed against Yazidis and other groups.

About Yazda:
Yazda is a global community-led organization providing critical humanitarian assistance and promoting accountability and justice for the atrocities committed by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as ISIS, IS or by its Arabic acronym Da’esh, against the Yazidi community and other groups in Iraq.
Yazda was established in 2014, three weeks after the genocidal campaign commenced in Sinjar, northern Iraq, and was among the first organizations on the ground providing lifesaving assistance to survivors. Yazda was the first actor to document Yazidi survivor accounts of crimes committed by ISIL.
